Debbie Stone, Head Trainer

Debbie Stone has headed up the training operation at Nighthorse Farm for 12 years.  Under her expert guidance, Nighthorse Farm provides top-notch care and scrupulous training that together result in success: Debbie’s clients consistently win show championships in hunters, jumpers and equitation.  Debbie’s training philosophy reflects her passionate love of horses and dedication to the sport.  She works closely with her clients to set goals and achieve the results they desire, always encouraging teamwork between each horse and rider.  Debbie is regarded as much for her riders’ frequent ribbon-winning as she is for her ever-present smile.

Debbie began riding at age 5.  She quickly became one of the West Coast’s top junior riders, winning in the hunter ring and also qualifying for the Maclay, USET, USEF, and Nor-Cal Medals.  While her true love was always the jumper ring, Debbie also earned many accolades as USEF Junior Hunter Champion.  In fact, due to her unique ability to read horses and her consistency and talent in the show ring, Debbie was regularly asked to catch ride top hunters and jumpers for other trainers and owners.  And in 1982, Debbie represented the United States at the Junior Pan American Games in Mexico City, where Scott King and Rudy Leone served as the Chefs d’ Equipe.

After her accomplished career as a junior and amateur, Debbie took the reins as full-time trainer in 1998.  At Nighthorse Farm, she has applied her extensive experience and understanding of the sport to coach numerous riders – virtually every year – to the PCHA, USEF and NorCal Hunter, Jumper and Equitation Championships. Many of Debbie’s riders have also been champions at the SAHJA Medal Finals, Horse and Hound Medal Finals, and Cloverleaf Medal Finals, while others have placed in the ribbons at the PCHA Medal Finals, CPHA Medal Finals, WCE Medal Finals, and Onondarka Medal Finals.

Debbie’s riders are known for exceptional sportsmanship, highlighted in 2008 with the 0utstanding Sportsmanship Award at the prestigious Portuguese Bend Horse Show in Southern California. Debbie’s 2009 Medal Finals ribbon winners included Allison Levine, Reserve Champion, Cloverleaf Medal Finals; Kaitlin Perry, Champion, Cloverleaf Medal Finals; and Haley Stone, top ten in the Pickwick Medal Finals.
